5.1. Methodological overview

The learning models used emphasize the development of new knowledge that can be used to interpret and solve problems, think and reason through meaningful learning and problem-based learning.

During the course the students have theoretical classes (62 h), seminars in the laboratory (50 h), so that they have the opportunity to integrate theoretical knowledge and practical skills, and develop tutored works (8 h) to develop other types of skills.

5.2. Learning tasks

The program offered to the student to help him achieve the expected results includes the following activities:

-Theoretical classes: 62 h.
 According to the schedules established by the center.
 Methodology: master class with the necessary didactic and pedagogical resources.

 -Seminars: 50 h.
 According to the organization and the schedules established by the center.
 Methodology: they are developed in groups of approximately 17 students, through a theoretical introduction, a demonstration and later student work. Depending on the activities, smaller groups are organized to favor practice, discussion or problem solving.

In these seminars, the contents are closely related to the subject of the subject. Demonstrations of basic procedures of nursing and the subsequent training and testing by the students are performed. On other occasions, there are simulated scenarios of practical cases partially elaborated by the teachers that must be completed by the students.

 -Practical work: 8 h.
 Methodology: individually and / or in group of tutored works.

5.3. Syllabus

The contents of the theoretical lessons are divided into five blocks of matter:

I) Introduction to nursing.

- Concept of nursing and care.

- Historical development of nursing and nursing care.

- Concept of holistic human being.

- Nursing role today.

II) Theories and conceptual models of nursing.

- Concept of theory and model.

- The relationship between theory and model.

- The most significant nursing models and theories.

III) The nursing process

- Concept. Characteristics. Steps.
Taxonomies Nurses.
- Step 1: Assessment. Concept.Data types and sources.Data collection techniques.Data verification.Organizing and logging data.

- Step 2: Diagnosis. Concept.Analysis of data.Identification of the problem.Types of problems.Nursing diagnoses.NANDA diagnostic classification.

- Step 3: Care planning. Concept.Priorities. Results (NOC). Interventions (NIC).

- Step 4: Implementation. Concept.Conditionings.Stages.

- Step 5: Evaluation. Concept.Stages.

IV) Nursing care according to Virginia Henderson’s 14 human needs satisfaction and the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, care planning and procedures).

- Breathe normally.

- Eat and drink adequately.

- Eliminate body wastes.

- Move and maintain desirable postures.

- Sleep and rest.

- Select suitable clothes -dress and undress.

- Maintain body temperature within normal range by adjusting clothing and modifying the environment.

- Keep the body clean and well groomed and protect the integument.

- Avoid dangers in the environment and avoid injuring others.
 
V) Medication management. Nursing performance.

- Medication administration overview.

- Administration of drugs by injection. Overview. Intradermal, subcutaneous, intramuscular and intravenous routes.

- Administration of medication in other routes.
 

The contents of the seminars are divided into five blocks:

A) Vital Signs.

B) Parenteral administration.

C) Nursing process.

D) Catheterizations.

E) Other.

5.4. Course planning and calendar

Calendar of face-to-face sessions and presentation of works:

-Face-to-face sessions

Seminars: throughout the course. At the end of each block the corresponding questionnaire is completed.

-Presentation of works

Portfolio: throughout the four-month periods.
